About Me

For the past number of years, I've been dreaming of travelling extensively in Latin America—just me, my backpack, and my camera. Well, the time has finally come.

In early 2008, I'll be flying one-way to Rio de Janeiro. I figured I should start things off with a bang, so I'll be attending the biggest party in the world—Carnaval in Rio.

From there, I'll head south until I bump into the Drake Passage. At that point, I'll have no choice but to turn around. After skipping along the spine of the Andes and arriving in Peru, I'll jump in the water and float all the way down the Amazon River until arriving at the Atlantic Ocean. From there I'll head north until I've polished off the few remaining South American countries.

Next in line is Central America. I'll visit some friends in Nicaragua as I'm hopscotching my way back to North America.

After arriving on my home continent, I'll visit some friends in Puebla, near Mexico City, before making my way to San Diego, where I'll hop a flight back to the Pacific Northwest.

The way I figure it, I'll have backpacked some 20,000 miles between Rio and San Diego—if I make it that far.

Some Video Clips

These are some video clips shot with my Panasonic TZ-3—don't go on a trip without a point-and-shoot camera that can shoot video (most can). I had never planned to use my P&S in this way, but it really captures another dimension than stills.

  • My Rueda de Casino class in Salta, Argentina, #1.
  • My Rueda de Casino class in Salta, Argentina, #2.
  • Bolivian dancers in the street in Salta, Argentina.
  • Just a fun dance after Salsa class in Buenos Aires, led by Soledad.
  • Another dance just for kicks after Salsa class in Buenos Aires, led by Andrea.
  • La Salsera in Buenos Aires, the place I would usually dance. This is a special night centered around their holiday Dia del Amigo, or "Friend's Day.
